Capital Case Attorney Lists
The capital case attorney list includes attorneys who have informed the Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) that they meet the death penalty representation requirements of Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 13 (“Rule 13”). The AOC has not verified the accuracy of the attorneys’ assertions, so courts should question the attorneys regarding their qualifications prior to appointment. Because this list only includes attorneys who requested to be included, it is possible that an attorney who is not on the list meets the requirements of Rule 13. If attorneys are qualified to represent capital defendants under Rule 13, courts may appoint them even if they are not included on the AOC’s list.
