Justices Mark MLK Weekend at Events

January 23, 2013

Tennessee Supreme Chief Justice Gary R. Wade and Justice Sharon G. Lee marked the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday weekend at events in East Tennessee.

Chief Justice Wade was the keynote speaker at a Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration Monday in Sevierville. His reflections on King’s impact were published in The Mountain Press.

Justice Lee chaired the Knoxville YWCA's 2013 Diversity Day and Race Against Racism on Saturday, January 19. The 5k race and 1-mile fun walk promotes the YWCA's programs of eliminating racism and empowering women.

Featured guest speaker was Theotis Robinson, one of the first African-Americans admitted to the University of Tennessee in 1961. The race drew over 325 runners and walkers, 20 teams and over 100 volunteers.

The Knoxville Bar Association Barristers, Duncan School of Law and ETLAW sponsored teams.
